WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU BUY WOOD FLOORS
In this section, we will help you understand the ins and outs of hardwood characteristics. There’s a lot to know and keep in mind before buying a hardwood floor. We want to make sure you have the best quality flooring.
When installing hardwood flooring there are two types to consider. You have unfinished hardwood which comes bare and is sanded and finished after installation. Once installed we apply 2-3 coats of a urethane finish. The stain is applied to the unfinished hardwood.
Another type of solid wood flooring comes with a stain already applied. Both types of wood flooring have the great ability to be sanded down and refinished. This helps to preserve them and extend the life of your solid hardwood flooring.
THE DIFFERENT CHARACTERISTICS OF HARDWOOD
Natural wood has the ability to expand or contract depending on humidity levels in the home. This is a natural occurrence with this type of flooring material. An expert installer will leave space around the home for natural expansion.
You can control the humidity in your home by using a humidifier or dehumidifier. Your choice will depend on the season and climate of your location. A humidifier adds moisture to the air, while a dehumidifier removes moisture. Consider your needs and the climate before making a decision.
PRE-FINISHED HARDWOOD PRE-BUYING NOTES
In case of prefinished floors, sanding, screening, and staining is done in highly efficient manufacturing plants. Urethane layers are added and then they are UV dried for a durable finish.
